Cisplatin
The first platinum-based cancer drug, discovered in 1964.
It binds to DNA in the cell and inhibits replication of the DNA/cell.
Unfortunately, It has some side effects because it attacks the healthy cells too. In the last 50 years, many kinds of platinum-based cancer drugs have been developed in order to decrease these side effects.
Cisplatin is square planar molecule, that means that all of its atoms are in the same plane and forming a square. Is it amazing? :)
I have just realized how much I like symmetric molecules! hehe
